SOLACE WITHELD

I can still remember
The look on your face, that day
Light catching the corners of your eyes
A sunset, darkening skies
It was a look
Not far off
From surprise

Only deeper, reds blend into
Shades of pain
Rays dancing off distant waves
I knew, you had waited for me
All those days—
Lost hours spent
Pacing shores of white sands
I found myself reaching for
Your pretty hands
You looked at me askance
Though you had said, you would
Forgive my wrongs
However many times
It took

You shook your head
However slightly, but the meaning
Was plain, I should have been there
Just the same—
Mist, taken up in surf
Clouds burst
In seas of
Blood red thirst
