jake st. john | type of blue

Painting by Yves Klein

Type of Blue

the sun
pushes clouds
from its view
looks down
on broken cities
cut in two
by highways
and political
parties
with sad eyes
mills collapsing
in on the labor
and laid off dreams
that lay dying
in open fields
and vacant lots
left behind
by corporate schemes
and money grabbing
the sky sings
a certain
type of blue
for the dead
whose hands
built castles
in the air
that stood
in the sunlight
like monuments
in the face
of change
now the foundations
have crumbled
and their hopes
which once appeared
as prosperous
as their futures
have all been condemned
