Paul Klee | Angelus Novus – 1920
KLEE’S “ANGELUS NOVUS”
Walter Benjamin
had a vision
of you as historical,
making for progress.
With multiplied spaces
art is never emptied out
but are created not in a halo
but by the palms
of sprouted hands
consumed by brightness
like a living leaf
aloe and green in wrinkle
like feathers or laurels
from a bathed clay,
we are born
from a life struggle
with your consent
touching art for humanity
open as the flawless flesh
(never forgetting time
and history’s class struggle
as in a seasoned refugee)
masking no silence
from first being enlightened
on earth, rather
than at the blushing sky.
