TWO ARTISTS

In Milan I sensed
the colors
of Ravel and Debussy
like clear glass
from Michelangeli
as mirrors of the sea
and Gaspar de la nuit
with mysterious candor
when celestial bodies
of the piano
webs and flows
as Reflets dans l’eau
and gavottes by Rameau,
then I visited Michelangelo
template of memory
to be transcribed
as sculptor and poet
in a search for words
or transfigured
by Roman fountains
of fallen blue airy birds,
on visages of images
by drawing in colors
exculpated in marble
secret patinas
of language traces
sculptured by genius,
hands enfolding clay
into our centuries’ echo
for us.
