What we’re not seeing …

The country is in shambles:
what’s to be written? It’s obvious
and yet it probably isn’t – it’s calm
where you live, right? Look again!
What you don’t see is the public policy stupidity.
What you don’t see is the foreign policy stupidity.
What you don’t see is the taxation policy stupidity.
What you don’t see is the religious stupidity.
What you don’t see is the spiritual stupidity.
What you don’t see is the economic stupidity.
What you don’t see is the artistic stupidity.
What you don’t see is the lack of political leadership.
What you don’t see is the lack of genuine insight.
What you don’t see is the lack of genuine morality.
What you don’t see is the lack of genuine empathy.
What you don’t see is the lack of everything
that really matters … this collection of keystrokes
could be so much longer – another howl, perhaps,
brought into the twenty-first century,
“post nine-eleven”, a phrase I detest,
but who would be listening? What has happened
to the best minds of the country? And is anyone
going to take time out to contemplate caring?
Probably not – what’s on our hand-held devices
is so much more important … really?
