s.a. griffin | they swear we don't exist

The cover was a collage I did for A.D. Winans as a present for his 74th birthday last year. Bill had already asked me to do the book, so I showed him the collage. He liked it, so we ended up using it as the cover and title of the book. The words, “They Swear We Don’t Exist” are actually part of the collage, never meant to be the title of anything, only part of the art. Collage was created from images taken out of a stack of old girly mags that belonged to one of my best friends, John Leech, the owner/operator of The Onyx Cafe, who passed away about a year and a half ago, so it is also a tribute to him. Yes, they swear we don’t exist, but we’re still here, aren’t we? Like a bad penny, we keep coming back. — S.A. Griffin
