d.a. pratt | wednesday afternoons

Wednesday afternoons

In pose after pose
she agreed to pretend
to believe in my artistic pretensions …
In drawing after drawing
I continued to pretend
to believe that I had inherited
my father’s artistic abilities …
Much more accurately, she needed
the money I agreed to pay her to pose
and, even more accurately, I really needed
her agreement to be “in the room” with me …
On those Wednesday afternoons,
when she didn’t have classes to attend,
she was more than just a muse
but we both knew she would not
ever be my lover …
