Accomplished

I really am quite
accomplished, the good PhD
told me, as if all of English
literature was sitting behind
her eyes.
And who was little I to mistake
her for a student?
This eminent lecturer, author
of papers, defender
of textual truths?
But that was years ago
and now seems to matter
as much as a grain.
