Another Election
You can’t vote for him
and you can’t vote for her
and you can’t vote for the others
you’ve never heard of.
The others may not be as odd
but in your mind
their platforms are wobbly
one way or the other.
So you plan to write in
Justice Ginsburg,
who fits in with the others
in being out of the ordinary.
But you are fond of her smile.
It reminds you of Halloween
and this is just one more election.
What the hell.

Da, I appreciate your comment and agree that objectively this is an important election but subjectively I feel that the American people lose in different ways no matter which one is elected. I voted the first time in 1960 for JFK over Richard Nixon. I was a caseworker in a housing project in Chicago with 458 very poor families, But those families, honestly, lived better than their counterparts today. Like me, they had hope because JFK was elected. When he was killed, Martin Luther King was killed, and RFK was killed, the air went out of me and many others, black and white. I have seen no election since then that has fulfilled the hope some of us had when JFK was elected, This choice this year strikes me as worse than many others. I certainly hope that I am wrong,
