On the Rocks by Mary Bone

On the Rocks

A lady sat with a glass in her hand,
looking out the window as cars drove by.
Glancing down at her gold band,
She hung her head to cry.

Her marriage was on shaky ground.
All she had was a gold ring.
Her man had left to go to town,
For another one night fling.

The ice in her glass began to melt,
the water was running down on the side.
Maybe the glass of ice knew how she felt,
and how many tears she’d cried.

As she kept looking at the glass so cold and hard,
She realized they were in the same shape.
They were both “on the rocks.”
