Paper Wasps by Mary Bone

Paper Wasps

Paper wasps are feeding on nectar.
They chew with their mouthparts
grinding away wood fiber
and other kinds of wood.
They love honeydew and juices
and are efficient predators.
When I am mowing, they zoom in
on my head, trying to scare me away
from their houses.
I have been zapped before
with their stingers,
so I try to wear a hat.
The wasps are very crafty
as they make paper
for their nests.
