Reasonable Creature

Milton said humanity
has his seat in reason,
I say teeth,
I say we sharpen our minds
on the substance of the day
changing them as we please,
wearing our animal
masks to the party, concealing
the totem inside,
pretending to be artful
in our sounds but knowing
we are only growing instead.
