disco is king by Mike Klumpp

disco is king

when i was 7 they shot my president
we were sent home from military school
fear that our uniform might insight retaliation

a haze of anger

riots races reductions reproductions
voices variances violence vengeance
vietnam
someone killed his brother
another

we returned from the east
too many deceased
tail between our legs
wondering why we were there
for what did we die tripping in the jungle

turn the page

the only peace we knew was disco
the system sank
apathy and greed filled the ranks
justice for all a prank
and 50 years later
at 63 – it is no better

the madness of media is a rash on the ass
of every american
the truth lost
the youth lost
virtual reality seems good enough
whether moral or immoral no matter
the hatter is dealing the cards
from the dome in washington
the people angry
on nation unaware of God
is divided
with liberty lost and equality squandered

this weak hull is leaking

turn up the music
let the lights shine on our mirrored ball
as we fall
dancing like fools in platform shoes
saturday night fever fading
Donna Summers singing
last dance –

disco is king
