Revolution

A vision of two, and we can start anew
gather an army to march and start the coup
the time is coming to build the barricades
unable to sit and watch while our country fades away.

Blood will flow down the hills to the streams
the persecuted will rise to fulfill our father’s dreams
A nation of god, no matter who that might be
A land with no barriers, and all will live free

Rise from the ashes of all that burned down
Fascists and Nazis have attacked one and all
The flag of our democracy lies crying on the ground
torn, tossed, and trampled became the bugler’s call

Take to the streets and make our voices heard
the love of our country lives deep and now stirred
The promises of the powerful are not the solution
We, the people who stand with the poor, have had
enough and will lead this revolution.

Today, tomorrow, and every day that follows
the treasonous shall be taken and kneel at the gallows.
Their actions were crimes against humanity, all
for nothing except to feed their endless vanity.

Our forefathers will be proud that we didn’t stand by and watch.
we stood against those who wished our country to die.
the wealthy and powerful will be put in their place
and learn that the people and our country have God’s Grace.

John Ganshaw

John Ganshaw graduated from NYU with a degree in Leadership Development. After a long career in banking, he retired to Cambodia. While living there, John saw the worst of ex-pats and the lasting damage of colonization. John learned that standing up and speaking out has consequences; he was arrested for speaking out against human trafficking, blackmail, and corruption. This led to John spending 13 months in prison and under house arrest. Innocence means less than nothing in a corrupt judicial system. John started writing in 2023 and has published over 100 works, most recently in Montreal Serai, Unapologetic, The Shallot, The Rappahannock, Empyrean, and Adelaide (2025 Poetry Competition Finalist). John writes in hopes that perhaps in some small way his words can bring truth, justice, and change to this fucked up world.
