6 Sketches Of  L.A. (1967-1970)

1.

On Sunset Strip
from ‘67 to’ 70
teaming with
influx,
revolution,
and
regeneration :
poems to
praise
the pulsating
streets.
L.A.
city falling
into the
sea
but not me,
I was
drunk and
dropping acid
in the alley
behind
the Whiskey A
Go Go

2.

I never knew whether
to believe the
story
about Jim Morrison
pissing into a bathtub
as she
bathed
in it,
but i knew
she
was
fucked-up
enough
to
not
mind.

3.

We all knew Janis
from the
liquor store
on Wilcox
in Hollywood.
We smoked joints,
laughed,
shot up,
got drunk,
dropped acid,
and tripped
at the movies
near Cantor’s
on Fairfax
with her,
maybe even
fucked
her

4.

The 6 packs
materialized
into
12 packs,
10 joints a day
and
mescaline every
week.
A shot
every
couple
months
for the
clap,
the crabs
were
another
matter

5.

They whacked Kennedy
then they whacked
King
and
we all headed
for the
race track
at Hollywood Park.

6.

The booze,
drugs,
sex
were
an overload
far
past
absurd.
Nose full of high
grade
coke
in
the bathroom,
reading
LeRoi
and
Patchen
for
sanity
