Five stars all power,
breathing in a revolution
is not soft fleece
or only a red flower,
the Polish bookstore
worker told me
every house in Warsaw
is mortgaged out
to someone else
in historical finger prints,
it’s the same everywhere,
offers me books of Radnoti
and Attila Joszef
for zlotys or marks
as I leave for Budapest,
he asks me
if Luxembourg was right
or when Lenin left
off the Finland station
was he prepared
for what came next
I told him,
just read the texts
in context
Marx would show him
what facts were vital
in the manifesto
and invited him
to my alto sax recital.
