ESCAPE

I dreamt of the scene
Of my escape
Or was it perhaps
A vision?

I stood at the end
Of a tunnel out of which
A river of water drained
Off a cliff
Forming a waterfall
That dropped into
Fathomless depths

If you looked out
Into the distance
You would see a dam
Stretching out in
An arc
Spouts of water
Flowing down in parts

And out of the dark
Heart of the tunnel
My pursuers had gathered
With white lights
They had come to
Flush me out
To starve me of
My right to live

But I wouldn’t
Let them have their way
This day or ever
I turned from them
And the sun shone
Remorselessly
On my life
As I leapt
To my final
Freedom
