Neon Streets | Photo by George Mobley
Allen had seen the best minds of his generation
Allen had seen the best minds of his generation
staggering through neon streets for a fix
of drugs, rock ‘n roll and onion rings
hoping to blot out life as they knew it
Allen had seen the best minds of his generation
penned for hours in soulless cubicles
then reel in pain to any indulgence
or howl in despair on the bus ride home
Allen ignored the best minds of his generation
who searched for purpose though they had it
who sold their meaning for a pay cheque
and wasted their lives drowning in a puddle
