THE MYSTERY OF THE DUNES

Yes, the dunes are beautiful.
Created by the wealthy in town to protect
their multi-million dollar mansions from the ocean.
It’s always what the rich do, build barriers to separate
them from Nature.
O, yes, they have Nature too. Trimmed and gated.
As a gardener I see their flowers lined up like soldiers,
all the whites, the pinks, the reds separated.
The diversity, the wonderful randomness of nature controlled
at least for a little while.
But the sand dunes remain beautiful.
They have no idea why they were put there by these
frightened, selfish humans.
The dunes have the audacity inherent in Nature to
simply exist as Beauty.
