Really Big Steps

I can’t fly in my dreams
But I can take really big steps
I mean huge
Like a whole football field
Long soaring strides
Carry me when I sleep

I can’t fly in my dreams
But I can take really big steps
I scissor-kick over high razor-wire fences
And glide above houses
I grab the top branches of trees
And swing sideways around them
like a vertical pole-vaulter
Propelling myself high into the sky
I drift along, taking in birds-eye views
Of fields, forests, and faraway mountains
Of houses, roads and shopping centers,
A floating view of the fleeting grids of man.

I can’t fly in my dreams
But I can take really big steps
I mean huge
The only problem is,
I have to come back down.
