Down the Chambers of Madness
Every day
when I awake
I hear the sound
of skulls,
once cloaked
in flesh,
clicking
as they roll
down the street.
Every day
when I awake
I hear the sound
of muted
heartbeats
creating a void
that seeps
through the clatter
of chaos
surging
through our society.
Every day
when I awake
I hear the sound
of commonplace
gun muzzle echoes
rattling
through the halls
of souls torn
from their casing
by the action
of eyes
blindfolded
by ignorance
and fear.
Every day
when I awake
I hear the sound
of a bullhorn voice
in my head
telling me,
“The world is brutal
and there’s nothing
you can do
to change this.”
Every day
when I awake
I have to choose
to transform
these amplified
sounds
of despair
into a remix
worthy
of being
the soundtrack
for a person
determined
to dance
through the chambers
of madness
this world
escorts us
down.
