Joy for Everyone
I have to hope
America can trust
and welcome them
especially parents
hiding children
when bullets fly,
buildings burn with
no food anywhere.
Every grandfather
should be able to
watch his grandson
play soccer
after preschool
on a field of green
and laugh out loud
with his best friend
Like many Americans, Donal Mahoney has mixed feelings about admitting refugees to the United States, simply because of what seems an impossible task, keeping the malevolent from entering the country with the true refugee. But what should America do? The author wishes he had certitude one way or the other. It’s not politics. It’s a matter of safety. — Donal Mahoney
