Beached Mermaid by Mary Bone

Beached Mermaid

I washed up on the shore
a beached mermaid,
from some long ago folklore.
Seaweed was in my hair,
my side was hurting from
being injured by a sailor’s oar.
Pain was shooting
from my fishtail.
I was hurting to the core.
