I Used To Be Addicted To Benzos, Now I Am Addicted To Boyfriends

I drink a lot of coffee
Probably more than any one-person needs
But when you’re 23 and submitting your first book proposal and manuscript
And you’re simultaneously filling out your Peace Corps application
While trying to save your young marriage of two years
And dating a boy who lives 300 miles away
While the other one is touring around the world with a punk band
And yet another is trying to finish up his college degree
And you’re left to pick up the pieces of their wreckage
While ignoring your own…

Sometimes the only thing that gets you through is a steaming mug and a burning cigarette.
